Dr. Sylvia is an experienced preclinical research director with over 20 years of expertise in cardiothoracic surgery and extensive experience in large animal models and applications for medical devices. He earned his veterinary degree from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.
He oversees the management of GLP-compliant studies and ensuring high standards of animal care and welfare. As an experienced veterinarian Dr. Sylvia has a strong background in anesthesia, medicine, and surgery with a deep understanding of FDA regulations and safety requirements for studies.

Dr. Taylor Spangler is a board-certified veterinary pathologist with over 20 years of experience in preclinical medical device research and diagnostic pathology. As Senior Research Pathologist at Bayside Preclinical Services, Dr. Spangler provides expert consultation in gross and histopathological evaluations, supporting FDA submissions for a wide range of medical devices.
Dr. Spangler’s expertise is rooted in gross necropsy, having personally performed thousands of postmortem examinations throughout his career. He believes that continuity in pathology evaluation is key to high-quality outcomes. With direct oversight of tissue trimming and histology preparation, combined with personal histopathology evaluation and authorship of the final pathology report, Dr. Spangler ensures that findings are thorough, cohesive, and accurately represented. This approach enhances consistency, captures relevant pathology, and supports stronger, more defensible study results.
Throughout his career, Dr. Spangler has contributed to hundreds of GLP preclinical studies, with expertise spanning cardiovascular, neurovascular, structural heart, thrombectomy, vascular closure, and a variety of implantable and interventional devices. His extensive background includes cause-of-death evaluations, diagnostic biopsy interpretation, and comprehensive pathology support for regulatory submissions.
Dr. Spangler earned his DVM from the University of Illinois and completed his residency in anatomic pathology at the University of California, Davis. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2005.

Dr. Vu joined Bayside Preclinical Services in 2024 as an Anatomic Pathologist and Clinical Veterinarian. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University after completing her bachelor’s degree at the University of California, Berkeley. She then pursued a residency in anatomic pathology at the University of California, Davis, specializing in laboratory animal pathology.
During her training, Kristina gained extensive pathology experience across traditional, non-traditional, and non-human primate laboratory animal species, working in pharmacologic, immunotherapeutic, and device-based research settings.
She is committed to providing exceptional clinical care, developing innovative pathologic analyses to meet research objectives, and generating detailed reports to enhance study outcomes. Outside of work, Kristina enjoys mountain biking, skiing, and exploring the wilderness, often accompanied by her adventurous cat.
